This project was designed to solve a simple problem: finding where movies and shows are available to stream. What started as a practical tool for finding something to watch became a long-running environment for developing my frontend, UI/UX, and product design skills. The application is primarily frontend-focused, using an API and Node.js server to retrieve and provide streaming data, with on-device storage supporting features such as playlists. Beyond development, the project has given me hands-on experience in hosting, deploying, and maintaining a live application on Google Cloud.
Designing an Intuitive Experience
Presenting large amounts of streaming information while keeping the process of finding something to watch simple required careful UI and UX decisions.
Working with External API Data
Building a reliable user experience around externally provided data required handling API responses and structuring them for the frontend.
Balancing Features with Simplicity
Adding useful functionality without making the core experience unnecessarily complicated required constant consideration of what users actually needed.
Building for a Live Environment
Hosting and maintaining the application introduced challenges beyond development, including deployment, configuration, and keeping the site operational.
